I'm not really the type of person who listens to every new song released, and thus I say the titles in this list were picked from a limited selection. Some songs were released at the beginning of the year, some near the end. Either way, these titles are those I loved and listened over and over again during the year 2012. I was against picking more than one song from the same artist, or else you'd see lots of Fun and Ed Sheeran here.
Here are the songs in no particular order.
A bricolage of tone and ear candy makes this celebratory song one of the most emotionally uplifting ones I've ever heard. Watch and listen.
I could've placed everything from Sheeran's album on this list, but that would be cheating, so I chose Kiss Me without hesitation. Brings lots of memories. I hate you, Ed Sheeran. Listen.
The demo version of Lucky Ones is better than the one in the album, in my opinion. This is the song that made me love Lana. Listen.
Plus points for adapting a catchy song from a Broadway musical. Mika puts a spin on this one, making it more pop-ish than a soap bubble. Listen.
Mraz is still one of the best singer-slash-songwriters out there. Period. Listen.
Performed during one of Glee's most devastating episodes. If you take it out of context and out of the Glee universe, Blaine's rendition can actually stand on its own. Watch and listen.
How nice of Avril to contribute this song for a One Piece movie. Haunting first chorus, consistent vibe. Check, check. Listen.
Various artists and Youtube sensation hopefuls have already covered this song, but this latest version from James Arthur is A-quality. Listen.
Yes, I want me some Barden Bellas. It would be useless if you listen to their finale without having an idea what the movie Pitch Perfect is about, though. Watch the trailer, then watch the movie!
Dahil masarap naman talagang maging single. Watch and listen.
There you have it. So which songs took control of your 2012? I'd love to read your choices in the comments section below. Again, happy new year to all of us.
